The Canada Goose Clothing Company is based in Toronto and manufactures quite a special product. Their down-filled jackets are a luxury of exceptional quality. Basically, the parkas are the warmest coat you could ever imagine. The company has been around for more than 60 years and is committed not only to making an amazing coat, but also to taking care of the planet and the people of Canada.
Canada Goose has invested a ton of money to protect polar bears (did you know that two thirds of the world’s polar bears live in Canada?) They also built resource centers to provide free fabric, buttons, zippers, and other materials for Inuit sewers who hand-make jackets and clothing for their communities.
Canada Goose jackets have been made famous by film makers shooting movies in the coldest climates imaginable, as well as by award-winning dogsled racers and brave people who’ve successfully climbed Mt. Everest in their toasty-warm apparel.
The coats are expensive but fans believe the cost is worth every penny. And can you believe that each coat comes equipped with a special tag that “registers” it. If you ever lose or misplace your parka, an honest person could use the registration tag to track you down and return it to you. See how fluffy and great these coats really are: https://www.canadagoose.com/
Canada is also known for making Tilley hats https://www.tilley.com/ The Tilley brand is respected and coveted. Their hats and apparel “draw inspiration from diverse landscapes, and are born from a beloved Canadian spirit that finds joy in life outdoors all year round.”
Like Canada Goose parkas, Tilley hats also come with a registration tag! I learned about these from Caro in our office. Many years ago while working at Whistler Ski Resort, Caro found a Tilley hat that a skier hat lost on the slopes. Caro, recognizing the special brand, called the local Tilley retail store and they were able to track down the very grateful owner because his hat was registered!
These two “tagged” products really got me thinking: What else should come with a registration tag?
Think about it. What about a baby’s blanket, that item a baby cannot sleep without, and if lost would create upset and panic? Or a child’s most coveted stuffed animal? What if either item were left behind in a grocery store… and if a stranger came across it, he or she could simply check a registration tag, contact the owner, and notify them that their precious item is safely waiting for them to come rescue it? Also think about your prescription sunglasses, your work laptop, a missing AirPod that gets separated from its mate, or that old sentimental hoodie you forgot at the gym? What if you could recover those items with a simple registration tag?
Just imagine if all important things could be identified, then able to be returned to their owners if lost or misplaced? This, of course, would mean that we’d also have to have some universal agreement of honesty, right? We’d have to all agree that if we ever came across a lost item, we’d feel a responsibility to get it returned to its owner, rather than taking a “finders keepers” attitude.
If you ever come across a misplaced Canada Goose jacket or a Tilley hat, you now know that there’s a way to get that item returned to its owner. But until all other sentimental things someday come equipped with a registration tag— let’s vow to make an extra personal effort to get that item reunited with its owner!
